Filmemacher | Kameramann | Drehbuchautor

After earning his diploma in Visual Communication at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg with the documentary Onkel Albin. During his studies, he had the privilege of learning from the experience of Wim Wenders, Fatih Akin, and Gerd Roscher. Long fascinated by photography, he found in cinematography the perfect combination of creativity, technical precision, and teamwork - elements that soon became his passion.

Back in Zurich, Guy Fässler began establishing himself in the local film industry, initially working in advertising, industrial, and corporate films, as well as documentary filmmaking. In 2017, he won the Swiss Film Award for his cinematography on the feature film Aloys by Tobias Nölle. Since then, he has worked on feature films internationally, while maintaining his love for shooting documentaries. He has had the pleasure of working with directors such as Francesco Rizzi, Nicola Bellucci, Dominique Margot, Lars Becker, Christine Repond, Fabio Pellegrinelli, Sergio Castro San Martín and many more.

Projects across the globe have reinforced his understanding that powerful images often emerge somewhere between planning, intuition, chance, and the foundation of human trust. His journeys into the unknown have fostered his ability to navigate different cultures and new encounters with confidence, making it easier to quickly build trust with teams and protagonists alike.

Cinematography requires precision and sensitivity, an open ear for the ideas of the entire team – and a deep understanding of light, space and motion. Visions are not only planned but also discovered. This interplay between calculation and intuition, between planning and surprise, is invaluable in both collaboration and visual storytelling – keeping our eyes open for new and unconventional ideas. When fresh perspectives emerge, ideas collide, and inspiration flows between people, the work not only makes sense – it stays alive and fills collaboration with joy.

Alongside his work as a cinematographer, Simon Guy Fässler also pursues his own film projects. In 2023, he completed the theatrical documentary Ruäch – Journey into Yenish Europe, which he also co-directed and co-produced. Additionally, he has collaborated with artists Jürg Egli, Pascal Häusermann, MARCK, Roland Ross and Lena Maria Thüring among others.
